Federal Sites

Overseeing the cleanup of current and former Department of Defense and Superfund sites.

Department of Defense Sites

NHDES oversees the cleanup of current and former US Department of Defense (DoD) sites in New Hampshire and provides support services to DoD through the Defense/State Memorandum of Agreement (DSMOA). For questions about individual sites, please find the site project manager contact information in each site summary page listed at the link below.

Superfund Sites

The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA), otherwise known as Superfund, is a federal program used to clean up our nation’s uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. NHDES works with the U.S. EPA to address Superfund sites in New Hampshire.

Sites that require long-term cleanup under Superfund end up on EPA's National Priorities List (NPL). NHDES is involved in cleanup activities at 22 Superfund sites in New Hampshire. One site has been delisted from the NPL, the Town Garage/Radio Beacon site in Londonderry, and one site, the Mohawk Tannery site in Nashua, has been proposed to be added to the NPL.
