Construction and Demolition Debris (C&D)
Construction and demolition debris (C&D) refers to waste generated from the construction, remodeling, repair or demolition of structures and roads. C&D includes:
- Asphalt, brick, concrete and other masonry materials.
- Gypsum wallboard.
- Wood waste (treated/untreated).
- Tiles/flooring material.
- Non-asbestos insulation.
- Siding.
- Plaster.
- Roofing shingles.
- Plumbing, electrical wiring and non-hazardous electrical fixtures.
C&D is usually separated from household trash before disposal. Open burning of trash and construction and demolition debris is prohibited in New Hampshire.
Many transfer stations collect mixed C&D for disposal. Some may sort out clean/untreated wood, asphalt shingles, and plumbing/wiring for recycling at C&D processing facilities or scrap metal facilities.
Check with your local transfer station for available options. Most have a fee structure in place to cover the costs of C&D disposal and recycling. Fees vary by facility and can be based on material type, volume and/or weight.
