Celebrate Small Business Week April 30 – May 6, 2023

Date: May 02, 2023

For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has celebrated National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. According to data from SBA, 97% of all businesses in New Hampshire are small businesses with under 20 employees, 40% of small businesses are owned by women and 3.8% are owned by a racial minority. To celebrate Small Business Week, consider supporting small businesses by shopping local, sharing on social media and posting reviews.

NHDES’ Small Business Technical Assistance Program (SBTAP) will celebrate Small Business Week by highlighting the program’s work with businesses across the state and other SBTAP services. The public can follow along on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

For example, SBTAP provides environmental guidance to TST Hydraulics Inc. in Merrimack, a family-owned 3rd generation business celebrating 50 years. TST Hydraulics specializes in the distribution and repair of hydraulic components focusing on the off-highway mobile market. The company provides in-house application expertise, helping customers bring their ideas from concept to reality utilizing an industry leading product portfolio from some of the largest fluid power manufacturers in the world.

Keeping TST focused on the future, Cain Shultz, Vice President and grandson of President/Owner Jim Shultz, “celebrating 50 years is a major milestone for any company big or small. Part of the success of our company is paying attention to the details. That is why we reached out to NH Small Business Technical Assistance Program to provide us guidance on some current up-to-date best business practices. As a small business, it is difficult to find the time to focus on certain areas of operation and SBTAP is a great resource to streamline some of these criteria. It was a positive experience and I look forward to working with the program to assure environmental compliance.”
