All hazardous waste generators in the State of New Hampshire are regulated under the Hazardous Waste Rules Env-Hw 100-1200. There are two categories of generators: Small Quantity Generators (SQGs), who generate from one drop up to 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month, and Full Quantity Generators (FQGs), who generate 220 pounds or more of hazardous waste per month. All generators are required to notify the NH Department of Environmental Services and obtain an EPA Identification Number. SQGs are required to fill out a Self-Certification form and pay a fee every three years. FQGs have more stringent requirements.
The New Hampshire Pollution Prevention Program (NHPPP), which offers free, confidential, non-enforcement compliance assistance to all businesses throughout the state, has begun an outreach effort to help SQGs better understand the rules that apply to them. Part of this outreach effort includes an electronic newsletter. The newsletter covers topics specific to SQGs and is based on responses to a survey sent to generators in 2017. The newsletter and other information will be made available on this site. For more information or to schedule a free site assistance visit, contact NHPPP at (603) 271-6460 or nhppp@des.nh.gov.
