ARPA Funds Projects to Improve Public Water System Sustainability

Date: April 20, 2022

The Water System Sustainability Grant program has expanded! This program provides grant funding to community water systems (CWSs) to ensure sustainable operation and identify possible improvements in technical, managerial and/or financial operations, also known as Capacity Development. With funding provided by the American Rescue Plan Act, the Drinking Water and Groundwater Bureau’s (DWGB) Sustainability Section held a grant round with applications due on January 7, 2022. Over $8.8M in funding was requested. The response received from CWSs in this first round of solicitation supports the Bureau’s estimation of the need for assistance to improve their Capacity Development. DWGB is hopeful this funding will support a culture shift within water systems to proactively pursue creating more sustainable water systems.
