  Shellfish Program

    Monitoring Programs: Bacteria

PHOTO: WATER SAMPLING ON LITTLE BAY

Ambient Monitoring: The Shellfish Program regularly collects water quality samples from over 70 locations in the Great Bay Estuary (including Little Bay and Piscataqua River), Hampton/Seabrook Harbor, Little Harbor/Back Channel, Rye Harbor, and the Atlantic Coast. Water samples are generally collected monthly and are analyzed for fecal coliform bacteria, as well as other parameters. These data are used to ensure that information used to make decisions on open/closed areas is kept current, and to track changes in water quality over time.
