    Sample Experiment

Surface Tension

Materials:
One of the following for each group:
        Needle
        Tweezers
        Bowl
        Water
Procedure:
  1. Fill the bowl with water. Using the tweezers, carefully pick up the needle and place it on top of the water. You may have to try it several times before you succeed. You will know you have done it correctly when the needle "floats" on top of the water.
  2. Observe the needle carefully. How would you describe the way the needle sits on the water? Write down your observations in your folder. When it is time, share your thoughts with other students in your group.
