Green teams are a highly effective tools for businesses, government agencies, schools, and other organizations to establish and implement a wide range of environmental activities.
NHPPP staff actively participate in the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’ Green Team. The DES Green Team has been busy creating a 2-year action plan to guide its activities. The plan is currently being reviewed by the NHDES Senior Management Team. The Green Team also initiated a process chlorine-free (PCF) paper pilot project. The Waste and Water Divisions are testing a 100% PCF, 100% recycled/75% post-consumer copy paper. We hope this pilot will be successful and eventually lead to more widespread purchase and use of PCF paper in the NH state agencies.
Since April 1998, over one ton of cafeteria/food waste has been composted on-site by the Green Team members and other DES staff volunteers. During June 1998, DES/HHS received a cardboard recycling dumpster for corrugated cardboard boxes. As a result of composting and cardboard recycling, DES/HHS now use only one solid waste dumpster and one (1) cardboard recycling dumpster in place of two solid waste dumpsters with a savings of over $100 each month.
Other Activities Include:
- Clean Commute Week
- Improved Environmental Awareness Throughout the Agency
- Improved Procurement to Include Recycled Content Office Supplies
- On-site Corrugated Cardboard Recycling
- Pollution Prevention Week
- Toner Cartridge Recycling
Your business, agency or organization can also successfully undertake these kinds of things and more. Just establish your own "green team", set your goals, make up an action plan, and, then, carry it out! It’s as easy as that.
