New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services

  • Geological Society of New Hampshire Classroom Enhancement Grant
  • Geological Society of New Hampshire Professional Development Grant
  • EPA National Environmental Information and Exchange Network Grants

The NHGS recently received two EPA National Environmental Information and Exchange Network (NEIEN) grants to enhance data for the state. One grant will provide the NHGS with information technology support to build a web portal for drillers to directly enter and submit their completed well reports to the NHGS. This will reduce time, increase efficiency, and limit errors in reporting well information. An additional grant will allow the NHGS to build GIS capacity to manage the New Hampshire Hydrography Dataset (NHHD). The NHGS is the data steward for the dataset through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The NHGS, in coordination with the New Hampshire Rivers Program, received Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds through the NH Office of Emergency Management to create a fluvial geomorphology program for the state. The program will be housed at the NHGS, where a new fluvial geomorphologist will be hired. NHGS was also awarded a grant from the USGS Geologic Data Preservation Program to catalog and archive geological data and information to preserve it for future use, and make more information available in digital form.
