NHDES Recognizes National Asbestos Awareness Week

Concord, NH – The United States Senate has officially designated the first week of April 2017, as "National Asbestos Awareness Week". The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, Asbestos Management and Control Program (DES) would like to remind the home and business owners that asbestos is still available in building products and remains in existing buildings. NHDES requires State certification of asbestos professionals for all asbestos abatement.  State law requires contractors and building owners to notify NHDES of any planned asbestos abatement work or demolition and requires a survey for asbestos containing materials prior to the commencement of any demolition or renovation of buildings in the state.

Asbestos is a regulated waste material and must be transported and disposed of in accordance with State and Federal regulations.& Visit the NHDES website for more information: www.des.nh.gov/organization/divisions/air/cb/ceps/ams/
