DES Releases Draft Public Health Assessment of the Ambient Air Quality of Claremont, New Hampshire

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Environmental Health Program (EHP) announced today the release of the draft Public Health Assessment of the Ambient Air Quality of Claremont, New Hampshire. The EHP prepared this public health assessment under its cooperative agreement with the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). The Public Health Assessment concludes that the ambient air in Claremont does not present a health hazard to the community.

The Environmental Health Program reviews environmental and health data and literature and makes recommendations to protect the public’s health. A public health assessment is a comprehensive environmental health study. It focuses on human exposure to environmental contaminants and on possible health-related consequences

EHP will host a Public Meeting to provide an overview of the Public Health Assessment, the conclusions of the report, and to answer questions of local residents on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 6:00 pm at Claremont Senior Center on 5 Acer Heights Road. EHP will accept public comments through May 8, 2009. The Public Health Assessment can be accessed at under What’s New or call (603) 271-5870 or e-mail to request a copy or provide comments.
