  Freshwater Jellyfish - Craspedacusta sowerbii

Information on the Freshwater Jellyfish Craspedacusta sowerbii

There is an animal lurking in our lakes and ponds that you probably haven't heard of. This elusive creature emerges at such inconsistent intervals that it is difficult to predict its appearance from one year to the next. We are talking about the freshwater jellyfish.

Have you heard of the freshwater jellyfish? Have you ever seen any? DES has been collecting information on their locations in New Hampshire since the early 1980s. However, since many people are not even aware of their existence, our data is limited.

After reading the following information, you may be able to more easily spot them. We invite you to contact us in the event that you do! Go to the Sightings Form to download a form that you can send in to us.
